Compass mark - Where Guiding Goes On

International Community Experience (ICE)

What is it?

Your ICE 2019/20 adventure begins with a residential weekend of community action and international experiences. We will explore what a community is and how you can help make a difference, no matter how small.

This will be achieved by taking part in a community project, such as environmental work on site at each of our locations.  You will also learn about global issues and have lots of fun and meet new friends!

Who is it for?

Guides aged between 11 and 13 (you need to be 11 by the 1st of September 2019 and no older than 13 by the end of September 2020).  You can apply as an individual or with some friends from your unit.

What happens next?

If you are chosen to go onto the next stage, the journey continues at a briefing weekend taking place 21st-23rd February 2020 at Somermead , Snipefield Lane, Wedmore BS28 4QS where your friendships are strengthened and further community work is undertaken.

You will have the chance to take part in the planning of the final project that will take place oversees, deciding on the types of community project work you will do abroad, where you will visit and what you want to gain from the trip.

Your ICE experience comes together at the final project during the Easter Holidays of 2020, where you will apply and develop your new skills through an extended community action project abroad.

You will also get to explore the area you are visiting and look back on what you have achieved along the way and look forward to your Guiding future.

How much does it cost?

£50 for the first weekend.  Additional costs apply for the follow up stages that will be advised during the weekend.

How many places are there?

We have spaces for 24 Guides on both weekends, places will be booked on a first come first served basis.

From the two groups 24 Guides will be offered the opportunity to go onto the next stages of the project.

You need to advise your Unit Leader that you have applied to take part in this event.

More information including Consent forms and a Kit List will be sent out after the closing date.
