Level 2 walking training

The Level 2 training course is aimed at members 18+ wishing to extend their existing walking skills, to learn how to lead groups safely in open country, and work towards gaining a Girlguiding walking qualification. The course will include both theory and practical outdoor sessions.

Bookings are open to volunteers from all regions within Girlguiding.

Please look at the Girlguiding walking scheme to ensure you have the appropriate level of previous experience. Remember that on the weekend we will be outside for much of the time in whatever the weather gives us, that there will be physical effort involved, and we will be out in the evening undertaking night navigation.  It is a full, busy but fun weekend.

The course will include both theory and practical outdoor sessions on:

  • Clothing and equipment
  • Route planning
  • Navigation (including night navigation)
  • Leadership responsibilities and group management
  • Hazards and weather
  • Emergency procedures
  • Access and conservation

The course fee is £130 to cover food, accommodation and training. Upon booking you can chose to pay a deposit of £35 or the full price. The balance will be due by 31 July 2026.

A mandatory 2 hour Zoom training session will also be included. This will be offered on Tuesday 8th or Wednesday 9th September 2026.

The weekend is fully catered. Accommodation is in shared dormitories on bunk beds.

Full details will be sent out after the closing date.
